The common cattail growing on our shores and wetlands, is not practical for small water gardens, but is an excellent choice for larger ponds. Although it will grow in much deeper water is best to start cattails in one foot of water or less.
Yellow Fringe
The Yellow Fringe is similar to the snowflake except the bloom is yellow with little frills on the edge and it does not have as many flowers per day. It may be planted in water as deep as eighteen inches and as shallow as six inches.
Umbrella Palm
Umbrella Palms are clumps of stalks with a crown consisting of bright green leaves radiating out from the center. Each stalk grows to four feet and should be planted in seven inches of water or less.
Snowflake
Snowflakes look similar to water lilies, except much smaller. The leaves have green foliage molted with low bronze speckling. The multiple flowers stems out from the leaf, which enables it to have as many as fifty to one hundred flowers per day. It maybe planted in water as deep as eighteen inches or as shallow as six inches.
Pickel Rush
The Pickel Rush, although native to Florida is still a high demand plant, because of its beautiful flowers. It should be planted in seven inches of water or less.
Parrot Feather
The Parrot Feather has beautiful green feathery foliage that trails the water’s surface when planted in shallow water.
Honduras Radican
Honduras Radican has wide green foliage with profuse quantities of white flowers on a long run. It should be planted in shallow water six inches or less.
Dwarf Papyrus
The dwarf papyrus is related to the giant papyrus and grows to approximately 30 inches tall. This tropical foliage has brush like heads on a cloak of stalks and can be planted in water, twelve inches or less.
